New Elementary School Information
The new elementary school, North Point, is nearly finished. It is ahead of schedule and will be ready for students this coming August. The principal, Mr. Kim Roper, has been educating young minds since 1979 and has been a principal in Alpine School District during the past 19 years.
School Safety Issues
A concern voiced by many parents is how to help children get safely to and from school. Parents and other concerned residents of Lehi brought to the school board’s attention just how dangerous the current situation is. Currently, the only way for kids from the Pointe Meadows area to get to the new school is to walk west on 2100 North, cross the railroad tracks, and then turn south on 2300 West.
For most parents, this is not an option. The railroad crossing at 2100 North is unprotected and trains routinely travel at high speeds through the area. Furthermore, 2100 North is in disrepair, there is hardly enough room for two cars to squeeze by each other, and there are no sidewalks between Pointe Meadows and North Point Elementary. The thought of our kids trying to cross the tracks there frightens most parents we have talked with. Allowing children, especially younger children, to try and navigate those dangers twice daily would be irresponsible.
Robert Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services for Alpine School District, met with Lehi City, UDOT, and UTA in April. He informed us that children from Pointe Meadows will be bused to North Point until a safe walking route is established.
