2100 North Project Update: 1/29/10

The following are planned activities for the coming week. Please note that due to weather, project conflicts, or equipment/supply issues, schedules are subject to change.

Due to re-prioritized construction phasing and in coordination with other area projects, the date of planned closures have changed. This will leave the roads open to traffic for several additional weeks. Construction crews are now on site and preparing several areas within the project for work. As part of these efforts, the planned closure of 2100 North at the railroad tracks has been scheduled for Monday, Feb. 15. Please see additional details below.

• Crews plan to fully close 2100 North between 2300 West and Pointe Meadows Drive beginning Monday, Feb. 15. This closure will continue through Fall of 2011. During this closure, motorists should use 1500 North as an alternate route (see attached map for details).
• In order to begin widening the future mainline roadway, 1200 West will be closed near the LDS Church to where it intersects with Thanksgiving Point Way (see attached map). This closure was delayed to accommodate improvements to the detour road. Those improvements - including widening and additional pavement - will be complete early next week and the detour will be put in on February 15.
• Also on, February 15, the Park & Ride parking will be restricted approximately 50 feet on the west side of Thanksgiving Point Way. This restriction will accommodate road widening in the area and will remain in place through project completion.
• A storm drain line is being installed along the edge of the future roadway. In order to reduce impact to the public, this line will be installed through the intersection of 2300 West during the school holiday on February 5 and into that weekend.
• In the interest of safety, the Jordan River Trail has been closed just north and south of the project. Access along the trail to the north and south will remain open, but there will be no connecting access through the project during construction.
• Site clearing and other earthwork will take place along the entire length of the project for the next several months. Clearing work this week has begun on the west side of the project near Redwood Road.

Lehi 2300 West Environmental Assessment

Lehi City and UDOT are currently conducting an environmental assessment for 2300 West. The study will examine environmental, cultural, and other potential impacts for the proposed 2300 West Corridor in order to recommend a preferred transportation solution. The environmental study will begin at the intersection of 1900 South and 2300 West in Lehi and continue to the north along the existing 2300 West alignment to Ashton Boulevard at Thanksgiving Point. At this point the corridor study location will shift in a northeast direction, crossing under I-15, and terminate at the intersection of SR-92 and Triumph Boulevard. The total length of the study area is approximately 5 miles.

The assessment is expected to be completed by September 2010, though February 3 is the deadline for public comments.

2100 North Project Update: 1/14/10

We received the following correspondence today from UDOT regarding the Mountain View Corridor project:

UDOT is committed to keeping you informed of details and impacts relating to the construction project just getting underway in Lehi between Redwood Road and I-15.

UDOT has employed a project-dedicated public involvement team for this project. We have already communicated with many of you in one form or another. As part of our ongoing effort to keep local residents, businesses, commuters, agencies and other interested parties informed during the project, we will release regular updates by email with project details, updates and impacts. If you know of others who may be interested in receiving email updates, please invite them to send an update request to 2100north@utah.gov or visit www.udot.utah.gov/mountainviewutcounty and simply fill out the webform. Along with the public involvement team, the project Web site is also a great way to learn more about the MVC, 2100 North project. The site will have construction updates, detailed maps and other helpful information.

The following is the first update for construction activities just getting underway. The MVC, 2100 North project team looks forward to working with the public to make this a successful project that will ultimately deliver a much needed improvement for the public in this area.

Project Update: 1/14/10

Construction crews will begin working next Tuesday, Jan. 19. Initial activities will include the following:

• Crews will begin installing a storm drain line along the north edge of the project area between the railroad and the Jordan River
• The contractor will also begin placing fill material near the Jordan River in preparation for the new bridge
• Site clearing work will take place along the entire length of the project now through April 15
• In order to begin widening the future mainline roadway, 1200 W. will be closed near the LDS Church to where it intersects with Thanksgiving Point Way. This closure will begin on Tuesday and will be ongoing for about a year while the new road is constructed. Traffic will remain open and motorists should use 2100 North. See attached map for details.
• At the Park & Ride, parking will be restricted approximately 50 feet on either side of Thanksgiving Point Way. This restriction will accommodate road widening in the area.

FrontRunner Construction Update

We recently asked UTA for an update on the bridges being constructed at 2100 North and 2300 West as part of the FrontRunner South project. Here is their response:

The work at the 2100 North bridge is going well and we don’t anticipate needing to close the road until February, a change from the originally anticipated closure date of mid-December. We will be coming out to your neighborhood, and others, to provide notice with a more definitive date on the road closure when we have the exact date pinned down. And construction is anticipated to begin on the 2300 West bridge in mid- to late-January.
